[THIN] Re: Outlook Express

Hi Carl,

You can disable the outlook express suff by going to
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components. Under this key
are a whole bunch of keys which control the behaviour of the app's auto
setup etc.

Find the key referencing outlook express,
{44BBA840-CC51-11CF-AAFA-00AA00B6015C} on my system, and delete the contents
of the stubpath value.

I just updated Internet Explorer on our Citrix servers (MFXPa SP2FR2) = from
IE5 to IE6 this morning.  <sigh>  As a result, I now have an = Outlook
Express icon on every user's task bar and program listing plus = when users
launch their regular Outlook98 application, the app is = treating it as a
new install and giving them the "Welcome to Outlook, = want to take a tour"
window plus adding the two greeting emails to their = inbox. =20 I would
like to remove Outlook express from user's taskbar and program = listing and
found a previous post to TheThin that recommended going to =
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed =
Components\{44BBA840-CC51-11CF-AAFA-00AA00B06015C}, selecting the = Stubpath
value name in the right-hand pane and deleting it.  Can anyone = confirm
this solution for me before I go too far? =20 Second question: anyone know
how to turn off the Welcome to Outlook = mode?  I have a lot of users that
will have trouble figuring out that = they need to uncheck the "display when
opening Outlook" box in this = window to keep it from reappearing. =20 And
lastly, when upgrading IE, is there a way to avoid these issues in = the
future?=20
