Sounds like you should run Outlook in Cached mode on the local network
(using those same computers) BEFORE you try to do it remotely. The
problem is that it may be taking so long to download all of his messages
and folders for the first time. It is always a good idea to do the
first run on the network then all the other times when they connect
remotely it will only need to download the updates/changes that took
place since the last update.

Hope this helps.

Thank you,

Jim Medeiros

Subject: [THIN] Outlook Cached Mode and CAG

Hello -

I have a customer who is having an issue whenever he connects in on the
VPN portion of the CAG from any workstation or laptop. If he tries to
launch Outlook in cached mode, it starts to begin "updating folders" and
then the entire laptop or workstation freezes up to the point where he
cannot even do a Ctrl+Alt+Delete. He is forced to reboot at that point.
If he turns cached mode off, everything works fine. He is able to
launch Outlook just fine using Web Interface, this issue is particular
to Cached Mode in Outlook and using the VPN portion of the CAG. He is
able to launch other applications just fine while in on the VPN, it is
just Outlook in Cached mode causing him headaches. This happens to all
users across all laptops and workstations in his environment.

Has anybody seen this before or have any ideas as to what the problem
might be?

He is running Outlook 2003.

Thanks guys!

Jon
