[THIN] Re: Opinion

I'd be interested in knowing what kind of problems you have had. I've
been supporting sonicwalls in various places for years now. The only
problems that I have come across was the power supply on the 2nd
generation SOHOs and I recently went through a issue of the new enhanced
OS. BTW, there seems to be a bug in that EnhancedOS that causes the ARP
tables to not correctly update. The ultimate end is that the connection
count on the firewall will keep growing (even if you unplug everything
but a power cord and a console cable to watch) to the point that it
causes a DOS on itself.=20

Checkpoint is the way to go if you have the money, as well as the know
how and time to configure the box.=20

I'm with Evan on the PIX. You just can't beat the reliability.=3D20

I have a lot of Sonicwalls out there, too. I've had a slew of software
and hardware problems with them, but the GUI makes it easy to configure.

I've used Cisco PIX's and Watchguard Firebox series extensively. The
PIX is a better device IMO, but the Watchguard gives you some added
features, such as the ability to have a webblocker, built in logging (no
need to dump to syslog), an easier to use GUI (when compared to PDM on
the PIX). There's a few other things you can license to make the
Watchguard more of an all-in-one as opposed to a firewall only like the
PIX's are.

I havn't used the new Firebox X series, but used the II/III and under
heavy load, I've had both models lock up on me, requiring hard reboot.
I'm more of a CLI guy, and the Watchguard's have no CLI, so keep that in
mind if you are a CLI type of guy.

Just want to get the illustrious list's opinion on firewalls out there.
We currently run a Netware product and are looking to replace it.
Opinions on firewalls? Either hardware or running on a server.=3D3D20
