[great topic, I guess] Not so: http://www.menandmice.com/9000/9320_DNS_Corner_Q&A/93_Q&A_037.html Sendmail used to have this as default behavior when no MX exists (not sure anymore). Qmail definitely falls back to the A record for domainname.com when no MX exists Ditto for Postfix if you change the setting ignore_mx_lookup_error = yes. Exchange doesn't. Not sure about others, but I know that the majority of mailer-daemon's out there will exhibit this. > -----Original Message----- > From: Foote, Eric [mailto:EFoote@xxxxxxx] > Sent: Thursday, March 25, 2004 11:15 AM > To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx > Subject: [THIN] Re: OT: very wierd email problem > > > And the only way that a mail server will send to an "A" > record is by an = > explicit rule in the configuration of the sending server like > "forward = > all mail bound for abc.com to 1.2.3.4." =20 > > Eric > > -----Original Message----- > From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx]On > Behalf Of Ryan Lambert > Sent: Thursday, March 25, 2004 12:06 PM > To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx > Subject: [THIN] Re: OT: very wierd email problem > > > If a domain does not have an MX record, some mail servers will deliver > to the parent host (htdlaw.com) in this case. > > The problem is worldnic hasn't put in an MX record for your > domain.
