We do. As a matter of fact I am on the VPN from my home right now. What
we did to handle the security issues was the following:
1. There are no guest accounts on our network. So, no file or other
resources are available to anyone who does not have a specific id and
password.
2. We mandated the use of passwords that have letter and number
combinations, and disallowed the use of any obvious combinations of
people names, pet names, and memorable dates (like susan1995).
3. We organized our file service so that no one had access to everything
so that even if one account got compromised, it would not let someone
get to everything.
4. We contracted with an electronic backup service (eVault) which runs
and agent on each of our servers every night and that backs up all
changes to their servers. So, even if someone broke in and deleted
everything on our network, we could restore in two hours with a couple
of mouse clicks.
5. We purchased our down secure ID and run SSL for any activities that
transmit sensitive data like customer purchases over the Internet.

Subject: [THIN] OT: W2k and VPN
Is anyone using the vpn services provided in W2k for remotely accessing
their networks? I am considering doing this but I am concerned about
security.

I am just trying to get some opinions.
