That all depends.  What are you planning on testing (specific apps)? 
Is the storage local (attached to onboard PERC, or additional PERC),
or via SAN?

If you are just wanting to see if applications will work on this
hardware, I don't see anything prohibiting your testing with the
PE2850 and ESX 2.1.1.
