That's what I thought. You are correct on INUSE, it flags replacement for the next reboot. I suspect inuse.exe makes use of the movefile API call which will try and do a normal file copy operation first, if that fails it flag's up to the OS to replace the file at the next system reboot !!! Even a Domain Admin cannot replace a file that is in use ! You must track down the sources of usage and stop all of them accessing the file before you can replace it without a reboot.... Would like to know how it works out for you Brian -----Original Message----- From: brian.hill@xxxxxxxxx [mailto:brian.hill@xxxxxxxxx] Sent: 01 May 2003 15:23 To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] OT: Replacing an open file I have a script that runs that is used to update a file on a network share. I'm running into a problem when this file is being accessed. The information in the file is read-only, so I don't care if it's open when replacing the files, except that it halts the script. How can I force the copy to take place even if the file is open? The creditials being used doesn't/can't have domain admin rights or admin rights on the server where that the share is located on. Is this even possible? Thanks in advance.
