We've stopped buying DL360s. Dell poweredge 1550/1650 are far cheaper, peform as well and have been totally reliable for us. Even the standard warranty is better (4 hour rather than 8). -----Original Message----- From: Mike Semon [mailto:msemon@xxxxxxx] Sent: 15 July 2002 21:03 To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: O/T Question about Compaq DL360 Also, with the DL 360 Pizza boxes many of the components are integrated with the motherboard. I had to replace a few motherboards because we could not replace components. We had mixed success with the DL 360's. The DL 380 and DL 580 are much more reliable. Do not believe just because they are 1U that you can stick 42 in a box and not have problems. The physics of thermal conduction is going to get ya. For citrix servers, I believe a DL380 is a much sturdier box, and has been tons more reliable than the DL 360's Ed -----Original Message----- From: Joe Shonk [mailto:JShonk@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Monday, July 15, 2002 10:47 To: 'thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx' Subject: [THIN] Re: O/T Question about Compaq DL360 What is the purpose of putting a 5302 controller into the box??? The 5i works quite nicely. I have read the product guides and it does indeed say it is supported.I have spoken to people at Compaq who say it is supported and it isnt supported. regards ----- Original Message ----- From: Boatman, Dave <mailto:Dave.Boatman@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: 'thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx' <mailto:'thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx'> Sent: Monday, July 15, 2002 2:33 PM Subject: [THIN] Re: O/T Question about Compaq DL360 Don't you mean the 380 ?... The 360 only has 2 drive bays and so I think you'd be wasting your cash. I've looked in the Compaq Product Guide for Feb 02 and both the 360 and the 380 are supported platforms for the 5302 ( 32 or 64Mb Cache) and the 5302 Fibre Channel HTH.
