Jim,

Sorry I wasn't clear.

I only have one server. I've done ExMerge in two-step mode and exported
all the boxes into .pst files. I am currently doing a full backup and
have a ghost image on the network as well. You know - The CYA method.

After the backup completes, I'm reformatting the machine with the same
NetBIOS name, same AD domain name, etc. Once I get Exchange up to SP3,
I'll import the boxes using ExMerge. After I have imported the mailboxes
into the Information Store, do I have to go through and map them to a
user account?

Thx for your help all.

You're absolutly right Rob. Although to be fair, the original post
didn't indicate to me that everything was going to be sticking on the
same system.=3D20

If you have 2 physical exchange servers, I'd still go with moving the
mailboxes.=3D20

If it's all on the same box, or you're formatting the box and
re-installing, Exmerge everything to *.pst's and import them into your
newly built server.=3D20

PS - I have never seen a policy which can forceably change an exchange
server connection in outlook for users, or even a script that does this
cleanly. If you've got a handle on a way to do this, I for one would
certainly be interested.=3D20

Agree on the client issue, but in case of a crashing server the =3D3D
reinstalled
servermight be having the same name etc.=3D3D20
Than there's no extra work to be done.....and for this is a thin list I
assume he can control this centrally via a script or policy or so.

If you setup the exchange servers within the same site, it's pretty easy
=3D3D
to
use the "move mailbox" option from within AD users and =
computers.=3D3D3D20

Moveing mailboxes this way will also auto update your end users outlook
=3D3D
to
point them to the server where their mailboxes have moved too. Which if
=3D3D
you
have a lot of users can be quite handy. You would need to have both =
=3D3D
systems
online when they startup outlook after their mailbox has been moved for
=3D3D
it
to work properly.=3D3D3D20

Exmerge will certainly export and import all mailboxes to *.pst's. =3D3D
However,
you'll have to manually update outlook on the end users stations to =
=3D3D
point to
the new exchange server.=3D3D3D20

Hi Ryan,

Did you check information about Exmerge ?
Exmerge can be used to extract mailboxes from a Exchange datastore.. =
=3D3D
Works
simple..

Wondered if anyone knew a good resource to migrate Exchange 2000 (SBS)
Mailboxes from one Exchange 2000 machine to another, or how to export =
=3D
=3D3D
all of
the mailboxes/data and import back in after a full blown =3D3D
format/reinstall of
the Operating System. I can't seem to find anything helpful... and =3D3D
tonight
is going to be a late night!
