Jim, Sorry I wasn't clear. I only have one server. I've done ExMerge in two-step mode and exported all the boxes into .pst files. I am currently doing a full backup and have a ghost image on the network as well. You know - The CYA method. After the backup completes, I'm reformatting the machine with the same NetBIOS name, same AD domain name, etc. Once I get Exchange up to SP3, I'll import the boxes using ExMerge. After I have imported the mailboxes into the Information Store, do I have to go through and map them to a user account? Thx for your help all. -----Original Message----- From: Jim Hathaway [mailto:JimH@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx]=20 Sent: Thursday, May 08, 2003 4:49 PM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: OT - Exchange Disaster Recovery You're absolutly right Rob. Although to be fair, the original post didn't indicate to me that everything was going to be sticking on the same system.=3D20 If you have 2 physical exchange servers, I'd still go with moving the mailboxes.=3D20 If it's all on the same box, or you're formatting the box and re-installing, Exmerge everything to *.pst's and import them into your newly built server.=3D20 J PS - I have never seen a policy which can forceably change an exchange server connection in outlook for users, or even a script that does this cleanly. If you've got a handle on a way to do this, I for one would certainly be interested.=3D20 -----Original Message----- From: Rob Beekmans [mailto:robbeekmans@xxxxxxxxxxxxx]=3D20 Sent: Thursday May 08, 2003 1:18 PM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: OT - Exchange Disaster Recovery Agree on the client issue, but in case of a crashing server the =3D3D reinstalled servermight be having the same name etc.=3D3D20 Than there's no extra work to be done.....and for this is a thin list I assume he can control this centrally via a script or policy or so.
