I spoke to a Dell server specialist in the UK with regards to buying blades, and he basically said to me (More tactfully than this and over half an hour) a) Don't buy our blades, buy our 1850s instead. b) If you *must* buy blades, for space reasons, don't buy ours, buy someone else's - IE HP or IBM. This was in a conversation being listened in to by other Dell sales reps, so was probably not a maverick opinion. In the UK, Dell don't even price their blades on the web-site, which indicates to me they're not particularly keen on selling them - usually a bad sign. Nick PS We're a Dell house too and for anything else I've seen no compelling reason to ever swich to IBM or HP in other circumstances. -----Original Message----- From: Rusty Yates [mailto:rusty27@xxxxxxxxx] Sent: 21 January 2006 17:32 To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: OT: Dell PE 1855 Blade Servers Is this an opinion or from experience? And can you give examples? We are currently a Dell show and are looking to buy around 200k worth of servers. We can save around 40k to 50k by going with Dell. So is it really worth that much to go with IBM? What does IBM bring to the table for that much? FYI: Reason I'm not mentioning HP is because if I was going to switch from Dell I would go IBM. Mainly due to their long history and I like the fill and management of their Blades. Stability, manageability, support, etc are very, very bad compared to the HP and IBM. If there was any way I could convince you to stay away from Dell I surely would. We are currently taking a hard look at using the Dell Blades for our Citrix Servers. Thanks in advance! Rusty
