I suppose you could try that, but it might just be better to follow the
articles sent you by Mr. Van Beers.  I have used both methods successfully
in the past.

If the data on the disk is OK I would think you could fit that disk into a
new machine, boot from the OS install CD and repair the existing
installation. That will set Windows up for all the new hardware without
trashing the data content of the original machine.

 

Once that's done, invest in some backup hardware and software ;-)

OK, I know it's not a PDC (Native Win2k3 domain), it's a GCS or whatever.
However, it's dead - motherboard has died. We are trying to source a new one
but it's an old machine so not convinced this will happen. And it's not
backed up.

At the moment we cannot add users or do much of anything that requires AD
change.

Assuming the PDC stays dead what can we do to regain control of the AD?
