[THIN] Re: New Server: Need advice

80 users total is not alot and since you only have maybe 8 users total on
the existing system, therefore 1-2 server should do it for a load-balanced,
redundant Citrix solution. Although Peoplesoft is a bear on resources with
Citrix I hear. ( Sorry our Peoplesoft is outsourced and maintained on a
Citrix Server Farm) I see you are a Dell Shop, or I would have recommended a
DL380G3 or DL360 G3, Probably wanna use Win2k SP3 with Metaframe XP FR2. to
be the most current.

Our old system is W2K/ AD, so I am thinking of continuing this, or (if I =
can get enough testing in) changing to W2K3. I don't know of anyone =
that has really tested 2K3 on Citrix though, and I don't have enough =
knowledge to become a guinea pig. Out of pure curiosity, why does it =
sound like I'm going NT4?

We have 80 users total.. may increase or decrease.. The most we've ever =
seen is 8 on each server. This is really over-specced, IMO.

Depending on how many users you plan to have on each server... the
hardware should work nicely. It sounds like you are creating a new NT
4.0 domain. Any reason why you wouldn't go to Win2k/AD?

All:

Finally got the budget to upgrade servers, and I would very much value
=3D
your input/advice if anyone has any.

Here are the specs I am looking at. Has anyone had any problems with
=3D
running Citrix on this, or can they see any problems I may have? (The
=3D
farm will have a PDC, BDC, 4 citrix load-balanced, running Peoplesoft &
=3D
a few other apps)

Dell PowerEdge 4600:
Dual Processors, both Intel Xeon 2.4 GHz, 512 K Cache
        2GB DDR SDRAM 4X512MB
        2 18 GB HD
        Embedded RAID (PERC3/Di 128MB 2 channels)
        Redundant Power Supplies
        CD/DVDR

Thank you very much.=3D20
