The overhead of performing the DataCollector role is very light in a
small farm. If you are using load-base load evaluators
(cpu/mem/paging) you will see that your DC doesn't even blink.
Having said that... I do have an "admin server" from which helpdesk
does shadowing, and some other mgmt functions. (no app load) That is
logically my DC, among other things. You don't need a dedicated DC
unless you have a very large zone. Citrix used to say 100+, but I've
not asked them about it in years. With today's hardware the number
may be much higher now.
