The Dell NICs do not allow any fixed setting on the Gig. It is auto on Gig or
you can fix down to the 100tx. Very frustrated with Dell & Broadcom on this -
makes it hard to diagnose possible problems on the network.

Just my .02cents.

I'm not sure about the Dell equipment, but on our Cisco gear anything gigabit
has to be set to auto-negociate. Everytime we tried to set the Intel cards to
a gig full it would choke talking to the Cisco gear. Just a thought.

There were many issues with Gigabit cards and the results were exactly what you
have described. In some customers we simply had to disable them and use 100MB
ones. That fixed all the issues.
You may give that a try for testing purposes.

When you say the other servers have the same problem, presumably you mean the
network queue length? I cant imagine it will be, but try add the Bytes Total/s
and see if the LAN's throughput is saturated. Are their functions "slow" at
all? ie, bringing up directory listsings or working with the sql server?

Whats the backbone of your network, switch/hub/make wise?

Oh, and its Xeon, not Xenon ;)

We are running office XP Pro Enterprise SP3.
Yes we are running Dells with brodcoms on the 6 citrix servers but the other
servers are Dell with installed 3Comm Gigabit NICS that we installed and are
getting the same problems. BTW: these problems do occurn on the LAN and the
sessions that are frozen do show active.

Thank you for the suggestions tho,

Bruce Jarrett-Norton

If its easy to do, try a different NIC in one of the MF servers and see if that
helps, people have had various problems with broadcom nics (I assume you're
using Dells??). But have a look at the following first-

As for the stuttering, what happens if you're on the LAN with the servers, do
you get this? If not, I'd suggest looking hard at bandwidth usage on your
external connections, they may be very well saturated.
(Also check ping times over them!)

The frozen sessions I'd hazard a guess at being sort of the same thing, but
more extreme. Does the session show as Active or Disconnected when they report
this? You might find setting up the whole Keep Alive keys thing will help this
a little - they will be disconnected rather than frozen!

There may or may not be something deeper going on, in which case someone else
may well provide more of an insight, but the above is what I'd look at!

Broadcom Gigabit NIC

Running applications in seamless using a frame relay connection to remote
offices on 56k up to 256k connections even some dialups running through our
NFUSE portal.
