/Excuse me for ranting./

When you talk about XPe, it confuses Citrix XP Enterprise and Windows XP
Embedded. XP has always been XPs, XPa or XPe to me, none of which are
Windows (Microsoft) products.

Thin clients have always needed a license. There has never been a thin
client that did not need a “Terminal Server Client Access License”.

All clients on Windows 2003 Terminal Server have always needed a license,
but you’ve not always had to pay for it – there was an “upgrade” under
certain circumstances. (IIRC). Indeed, all clients that access a terminal
server have always needed a client access license – though some workstation
OSs came with a TSCAL sort of built-in for some server OSs.

You’re just too vague. You need to be specific. “Windows XP Professional”
and “Windows XP Embedded” are different operating systems. Even “Windows XP
Professional” has different licensing conditions according to how you
purchased it.

And the key thing here is the OS that you server is running – you’ve not
even mentioned that. (no, it’s not – the key thing is your licensing deal
with Microsoft, but that’s not a question that can be answered / considered
on a public forum)

OK. If you’ve followed me this far, you might now have an idea as to why MS
licensing are getting confused.

Did I answer the question? (that may or may not be rhetorical, sarcastic, or
an attempt at humour)

Subject: [THIN] Microsoft Licensing

While speaking with Microsoft licensing they informed me that XPe does not
include a Terminal Services license. Previously Microsoft had told me it
does…

Is everyone aware XPe thin clients need TS licenses? I thought it was more
or less XP Pro and wouldn’t need a license:-(
