I'd be interested in the specific hardware (and APPS.) you're using because
VMware ESX seems to behave so differently on varying hardware. In any
event, we're working with a group that has managed to get an IBM x440
eServer 8-way to handle about 25 slices of W2KAS (18 of them being MetaXP).
They've seen decent utilization with varying percentages of processor
allocation but averaging about 45 users per slice. We're investigating the
performance ourselves with oracle based applications (PeopleSoft etc..), but
haven't quite managed to get our hands on the IBM beast with the 64MB of L4
cache!!! (I don't get any kickbacks from BigBlue)

Subject: [THIN] Metaframe XP and Vmware ESX

Hi there all,

Anyone running Metaframe Xpe under Vmware ESX 1.52? Care to comment on =
your
performance?

I have an issue where our Win2k sp3/MF Xpe FR2 virtual machine will only =
get
about half the users per processor compared to running 'on the iron'. =
Even
with 1-2 users on the system, CPU use is still very high (50-70%)

I have done all the tuning described in the Vmware knowledge base and
applied the post FR2 hotfix for Vmware.

Thanks
