I read somewhere (can't remember where, maybe I was dreaming since I haven't seen it since) awhile back that Citrix was going to start enabling the win32 client to enable inbound connections to workstations. Since WinXP already supports terminal services, layering ICA onto a workstation, and giving users a front end through NFUSE and CSG back to their individual workstations could be a very slick way to enable mobile workers. With enough cellular bandwidth and one of those hokey tablet PCs, you could do some neat stuff. =20 Mostly my power users with fat clients who complain do so about the locked down desktop and loss of features over their workstation when using Citrix. Taking them straight to their desktop would solve a lot of issues. If your going to have fat desktops and not go completely thin, I don't see a reason not to do this. I hope Citrix does take the initiative to build on CSG. There are lots of possibilities! -----Original Message----- From: Bernd Harzog [mailto:Bernd.Harzog@xxxxxxxxxxx]=20 Posted At: Tuesday, March 18, 2003 2:25 PM Posted To: TheThin Conversation: [THIN] Re: MetaFrame Secure Access Manager Webcast Subject: [THIN] Re: MetaFrame Secure Access Manager Webcast I watched the webcast. I think this is a pretty big (and good) shift in focus for Citrix. A shift away from thinking that application integration via nFuse was their future and towards thinking that access to applications is their future. My interpretation is that they are now looking to build much more upon CSG than nFuse. The new single sign-on stuff is a logical extension of CSG. I think simplifying access to access in the manner that they articulated is a larger opportunity for Citrix than are portals, and one that plays much more naturally to their strengths.=3D20 So, I think it was an announcement of a good strategic move for Citrix. A move far more likely to drive much more rapid penetration of more Citrix seats and servers than applications integration ever was going to. Just my two cents.
