I always figured that Notes wouldn't launch because it can't find
notes.ini in the Winnt folder. If Notes is currently running, then it
doesn't have to look for the notes.ini file. Do you have notes.ini in
your winnt folder? If you do, that might explain why it's trying to run
setup if you don't have Notes launched. The notes.ini in \winnt might
be the default one that tells Notes to run the setup wizard. If you
delete the notes.ini in \winnt, you should get an error that it can't
find notes.ini when trying to email a link within IE and Notes isn't
currently running. Just make sure that Notes is running before doing
anything related to email within IE.

Why it doesn't work might be easy to answer. Per the Citrix document, a
version of Notes is copied to the user's home directory every time they
launch Notes (well, launch the batch file, really). This leads me to
believe that, prior to running Notes, there is a file missing that IE is
looking for. After Notes is launched, whatever file is needed is copied
to it's proper location, and all is well.

A few more questions:

Are your users using published apps or a published desktop? Can you
tell if Notes is being copied in it's entirety each time they launch it?
Are their profiles being deleted after they log out (or at least the
Notes directory)? =20

I'll send my Notes document to you offline, and you can see if there is
something in there that can help you.

Gabe,

For my non admin account I opened Notes first. Then went to the mailto.
It worked fine. Now I just need to find out why it doesn't work when
notes isn't open first. Also why a new user with Notes setup can have
Notes open but the mailto opens Outlook Express

Thank You,

Try starting Notes first, then opening IE and going to Mail To. I'm
curious whether this will work or not. If it does, then it is a user
config problem that may be fixed by a reg hack, ini file, or similar....

Sorry I read it a bit too fast. Have you check the default mail profile
on the server to enusre that it was defaulting to Notes instead of OE.
(Start ->settings->Control Panel->Mail)

Magnus,

In my first email I was trying to make note that I have already done
this. Thank You though any other thoughts.

You have to set Lotus notus as your default mail program. You can do
this by right clicking on the IE icomn go to properties -> programs tab
then check the EMAIL drop down and it should state lotus notes.

Once you make sure this works correctly you can implement it for the
rest of the users using a GPO or Local policy

Subject: [THIN] Lotus Notes and Internet Explorer

Group,

I have W2k sp3 with IE 5.5 sp2 and MF XPE FR2.

I have had Lotus Notes running for sometime now. I installed Lotus with
help of the Citrix document. My issue is below.

When I log in as my non admin account and open IE and click on a mailto
link it opens Lotus Notes but Lotus thinks it is not setup. When I
click on the Lotus Notes shortcut in my Start Menu>Programs, Lotus
works just fine. Why would this happen? I have users that would like
to be able to click on mailto links.

Also I have a new user that has the IE programs correctly setup with
Lotus notes as the Mail client but for some reason Outlook Express still
opens not Lotus. Any help would be appreciative.

Thank You,
