Jeremy, Very good questions and comments! We told the Citrix product manager about our plans several months ago and discussed it with them. They said they wouldn't have something for quite a while so we went ahead and wrote it- the customer has been in production with it for a while already. Citrix was fully aware of our feature set, I am curious to see how many make it into their product :) Besides, when you build it from scratch and design it around the customer environment it simply works better and produces a more elegant solution. Throughout our ten year history we have always been involved in these leading/cutting edge projects. Sure you can wait around for commercial versions of what the customer needs, but by the time is comes out and other people are doing it, we have already deployed the solution and are on to the next thing. It is also interesting to note that much of the code ends up being fairly simple in the end. The real magic is in having the insight and experience to fully comprehend the requirements. You need to properly analyze the desired outcome against the details of the existing infrastructure. That is, you must know the precise feature set of all the existing products and all the "gotchas". Then you extend that with what is possible at the API level and through custom coding and datasets. The resulting code is usually surprisingly straightforward and easily maintained. Our clients are please with the result and have had no problems taking ownership of the projects and custom coded portions. Regards, Steve Greenberg Thin Client Computing 34522 N. You and Joe get all the good projects :) But wouldn't something like a commercial broker (http://www.leostream.com/) do this for you? Then you don't have to worry about the on-going support and maintenance of your app, which can be a legal nightmare. And I guess the new Citrix Desktop Broker being publicly released this month will do as well. I'm just intrigued to know what motivated you to write your own? Cheers. In this scenario, the software requires it?s own XP workstation so we wrote custom software that serves up virtual machines to end users on demand. It tracks sessions in use and hands out available VM?s as needed. It also load balances across physical host machines. Regards, Steve Greenberg Thin Client Computing 34522 N. I am looking for additional ideas from people on how they have come up with innovative/original new ways to save time and use Citrix in your corporation. I have things like ways of publishing MMC's of AD users, Rdesktops and Exchange Control Panel, Publishing Printers Folder, Web interace mods, CSG/WI usage, etc. Just looking for some other great things people are doing with Citrix Products that they think others may not of thought of that other companies could use. I'll make the whole presentation available after CSEIT to the list. Please post to the list as this could be a great thread also. Include registry hacks, text you used to publish the item, etc. I'll try and give credit where credit is due.
