Follow the guidelines and suggestions below.
Best Practices
Prior to uninstalling any MetaFrame product, you need the answers to a few
questions.
1.
What is the latest Citrix hotfix installed? Remove post service pack
hotfixes prior to uninstalling a Service Pack. See How to Remove a Hotfix,
CTX759417 - How to Remove a HotFix & CTX101703 - Installing and Uninstalling
MetaFrame XP Post FR2 Hotfixes.
2.
What service pack is being used? Was it upgraded from a previous service
pack? You may need to rollback/uninstall multiple service packs to uninstall
the base MetaFrame product.
3.
Were any hotfixes, service packs, or MetaFrame products installed with
Installation Manager or Active Directory? There may be special uninstall
considerations when using methods other than the preferred method of Add/Remove
programs. See CTX448634 - Install and Uninstall Issues of Feature Release 2
using Installation Manager.
4.
Has the knowledgebase been searched for specific uninstall error messages?
For example: CTX949619 - Unable to Uninstall MetaFrame XP Feature Release 2
after IIS is Removed, CTX135310 - Error: "Event ID 7031: The IMA service has
terminated unexpectedly" or "Event ID 65: Citrix Resource Management cannot be
found" when Starting the IMA Service after Uninstalling Citrix Resource
Manager, and CTX836242 - Error: "Uninstall could not remove the Feature Release
settings of this server from the data store. Uninstall will now exit." when
attempting to uninstall Service Pack 1.

Presentation Server.
Uninstalling MetaFrame XP Feature Release 2/3
1.
Uninstalling Feature Release 2 without the installation of the pass-through
client may cause a critical error. See the readme for Hotfix XE102W076 or it?s
equivalent.
Downgrading Feature Release 3 to Feature Release 2 may cause issues.
CTX102815 - Hotfix XE103W2K032 - For MetaFrame XP 1.0 for Windows 2000 Server -
English XE103W2K032
Uninstalling Feature Release 2/3 removes MetaFrame XP. To downgrade Feature
Release 2/3 using Add/Remove Programs, select Change, then Downgrade. See
CTX657088 - Uninstalling Feature Release 2 or 3 Removes MetaFrame XP.
You can downgrade a feature release if necessary. Downgrading the software
returns the MetaFrame XP server to its state before the feature release or
service pack was installed. Begining with Feature Release 2, you have the
option to install all of MetaFrame XP with Feature Release 2. If you already
have MetaFrame XP installed and do an upgrade instead, you have the ability to
remove just the feature release.
To downgrade to an earlier version of MetaFrame XP:
A.
Choose Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs.
B.
Select the service pack or feature release from the list of installed
programs.
C.
Click Change.
Important: Do not click Remove. Doing so uninstalls MetaFrame XP from your
system.
D.
From the Application Maintenance dialog box, click Remove and then click Next.
E.
From the Citrix MetaFrame XP for Windows, Feature Release 2 Uninstall dialog
box, click Downgrade.
2.
If you are planning to uninstall MetaFrame XP from the Resource Manager
metric farm server or database connection server for a summary database, be
sure to reassign the server before removing it from the farm. If you are using
a summary database, Citrix recommends that you update it before removing any
servers from the server farm. Make sure you also create any necessary billing
reports from the server before you remove it.
3.
UsrLogon.Cmd Does not Execute at Logon After Uninstalling MetaFrame XP
Feature Release 2, CTX941564 - UsrLogon.Cmd Does not Execute at Logon After
Uninstalling MetaFrame XP Feature Release 2 .
4.
If you need to force the removal of MetaFrame XP from the system, you can
use the command line to add the property CTX_MF_FORCE_SUBSYSTEM_UNINSTALL and
set its value to ?Yes.?
The following sample command line enables logging of the uninstallation
operation and forces the removal of MetaFrame XP:
msiexec /x MFXP001.msi /l*v c:\output.log
CTX_MF_FORCE_SUBSYSTEM_UNINSTALL=?Yes?
If one encounters any issues, it has been observed that removing the
quotation marks around Yes may allow the force uninstall command to execute as
expected.
5.

Uninstalling MetaFrame XP Version 1.0 and/or Feature Release 1
1.
MetaFrame XPe includes three optional add-on features:
?
Application Packaging and Delivery (Installation Manager)
?
System Monitoring and Analysis (Resource Manager)
?
Network Management (Network Manager)
Certain components of Installation Manager and Resource Manager are installed
on each MetaFrame server.
If you plan to uninstall MetaFrame XPe after the components of Resource
Manager or Installation Manager are installed, you must first uninstall
Resource Manager and Installation Manager using the Add/Remove Programs option
in Control Panel before initiating a MetaFrame uninstallation. Failure to do so
causes the MetaFrame uninstallation to fail and renders your server inoperable.
Uninstalling/Reinstalling Installation Manager causes IMA Service to hang
2.
If Service Pack 1 or Feature Release 1 is installed, first run
xpfruninstall /force at a command line.
3.
To force the removal of the base MetaFrame XP product, run RMVICA.exe
/force at a command line.
Uninstalling MetaFrame Version 1.8
There are no special considerations other than ?Best Practices? when
uninstalling the base MetaFrame 1.8 product.
Click Start and then Run. Type RMVICA on the command line. Alternatively,
type RMVICA at a command prompt.
This command launches the dialog box for the Citrix uninstall routine.
Manually Uninstalling MetaFrame 4.0; 3.0; and XP when Add/Remove Programs and
the Command Line Fail
CAUTION! The steps below may leave your server unusable. The server may need
to be rebuilt. Follow these steps only when absolutely necessary.
1.
Search the drive for IMA*.dll and delete all Citrix files. If there is a
question about whether or not the file belongs to Citrix, view the version tab
within the property settings of the file.
2.
Delete the following folders, if present:
? %SYSTEMDRIVE%\programs files\citrix
? %SYSTEMDRIVE%\winnt\system32\citrix
? Feature Release 2 Directory Structure Changes, CTX065796 - Feature
Release 2 Directory Structure Changes
3.
Delete the following items in the registry using Regedt32.exe:
? HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Citrix (take ownership of subkeys if needed)
? HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Citrix Systems, Inc.
? HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\citrixservices
? HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\control\citrix
? HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\control\citrixservices
? HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\ICABrowser
? HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\imaservice
4.
Search the drive for *.del* and delete all files marked for deletion.
Note: When you attempt to delete some files, you may receive the following
error message:
?Cannot delete file: The specified file is being used by Windows.?
Skip these files and delete everything else that can be deleted. Restart and
then again try to delete the files. For Windows 2000, restarting in Safe Mode
permits removal of these files.
Restart again before reinstalling MetaFrame 4.0; 3.0 or XP. Deleting these
files and registry entries allows the new installation to proceed normally
