Claudio, thanks for the info. I did not know you could get scripts for the older hardware. I will have to check out the possibility of using RDP for the old hardware, though the Ghosting seems pretty straightforward as well and runs a tad cheaper than the RDP lics, plus the additional cost of the EmBoot software. Nice to know that it is an option though. rob -----Original Message----- From: Claudio Rodrigues [mailto:crodrigues@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Friday, April 02, 2004 10:31 AM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: Ghosting Questions We are using RDP 1.50 here with scripts for all the older hardware, from ProLiants 1600s to 6000s. It is not on the product by default but you can download off the web and import at the Altiris Console. Also to fix the PXE issue, EmBoot has PXE in a floppy to add PXE support for ANY Nic, including Vmware. -----Original Message----- From: Rob Slayden [mailto:rslayden@xxxxxxxxxxxxx]=20 Sent: April 2, 2004 1:26 PM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: Ghosting Questions Actually, the fix is to add the command -restorsig and -szf to the Additional Command Line Switches to enable the restore of a deploy image with remapped drives. This is only valid for RDP 1.50 or later. http://h18013.www1.hp.com/products/servers/management/rdp/knowledgebase/ 0000 0122.html RDP is great for the "latest" HP hardware but does not support the older hardware, though I suppose you could install a PXE card in the older servers and then use RDP, though there may be other restrictions as well. We are upgrading (imaging) 4+ year-old PL6400 and DL580 servers (27 of them). Looks like Ghost will do this very nicely. Not sure why I've kept my head in the sand to Ghost for all these years <g>. Could have saved myself a ton-o-work rebuilding servers.=20 rob -----Original Message----- From: Luchette, Jon [mailto:JLuchette@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx]=20 Sent: Friday, April 02, 2004 5:55 AM To: 'thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx' Subject: [THIN] Re: Ghosting Questions I know that this isn't really an answer if you must use Ghost but I've heard that the whole problem of imaging a Citrix server with remapped drives has been fixed in HP's RDP (Rapid Deployment Pack) product. /jL -----Original Message----- From: Mike Semon [mailto:msemon@xxxxxxx] Sent: Thursday, April 01, 2004 9:42 PM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: Ghosting Questions Disk to image is the way I believe we did this. There was a problem with partition to image as I recall. Remember to use the -FDSP to force disk signature preserve. -Mike -----Original Message----- From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx]On Behalf Of Rob Slayden Sent: Thursday, April 01, 2004 7:44 PM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: Ghosting Questions Using both the docs actually. Putting the steps together from Ch 5 of the Advanced Concepts doco with the steps in the Ghost doco is about 90-95% of what I need. Still curious about user drive prep and image deployment methodology.
