I am aware of the option to be able to disable floppy drive access. This is a
new v4 build, and we have purchased powerfuse to go with citrix & Terminal
Services, so I have a few more easily configurable options available ;-)
The organisation I work has started thinking USB v Floppy Drives, so in the
medium to long term, the requirement for floppy disks should become extinct.
However, today, and in the short to medium term, there are users who do still
need access to floppy disks, so they will still have the problem.
To try and make this a little clearer.....
Some users need floppy disk access
At some point this user group needs the client drive mapped.
Powerfuse offers a fast connect option so that the client drive will only be
mapped when the user attempts to connect to the drive.
Having started testing this, I haven't seen concrete performance results to
proove this is a viable option. e.g. No users get the floppy drive mapped by
default, hence no floppy scans. Users that need access to a floppy disk will
get the client drive mapped when they access the drive, and from then on they
will get the regular "headache inducing" floppy scans when they use Office 2003
file/open dialogs and browse in Windows Explorer ;-(
