We use DOS network client and DOS WFClient and publish a desktop. Keep
the NICs standard to make DOS networking easier. Joanne

The vast majority of the clients in my building are P133/P166's. They
all run Win95, and we dumbed them down something fierce.. Edit the
system.ini and change the shell from explorer.exe to the RDP Client
(MSTSC.exe -- We're not using Citrix), so now the machines boot, and go
straight to the TS servers...

        Hi Chris,

I used to have a low opinion of win 9x, but now that no-ones
writing viruses for win 9x anymore, it starting to look like an ideal
thin client O.S. if you can't cope with Linux. I've got a largish
customer still using several hundred 9x systems, locked down and PN
only. Some are 5-6 years old and still going, only being replaced when
they die.

At last audit there were still 10-20 Pentium 75s.

        regards,

        Rick

Was curious as to what different strategies people have used to
"dumb down" existing desktops?

Does it make sense to wipe out the existing OS and install a 3rd
party app such as Alcatraz (if so what are some suggestions on vendor)
to really dumb them down or should we keep the myriad of old Win98-Win2k
machines and just use PNagent or Program Neighborhood in the startup
folder?

        Thanks,

        Chris
