[THIN] Dedicated Data Collector .. When?

What are the criteria people use when determining if a farm or zone
requires a dedicated data collector? Numbers of servers? Apps? Users?
Other? Presume I am using Windows 2003 SP1 and MPS 4.0, with an SQL 2000
datastore.
