Gentlemen,

If you have not heard of us, we make TScale. TScale cannot help the problem
that you are experiencing, but since our developers are DCOM experts I asked
them if they could help. Here is their response:

MDM.EXE is the Machine Debug Manager. It is installed as when you install
the Microsoft Script Debugg explicitly or as a side effect of installing any
of the following:
Microsoft Office 2000
Microsoft Visual Studio
Microsoft Internet Explorer

The error you are seeing is because mdm.exe got deleted or de-installed.
Running Detect and Repair from Office 2000, will reinstall mdm.exe.
If you do not want script debugging enabled, in IE choose Tools|Internet
Options. On the Advanced tab under Browsing choose "Disable Script
Debugging". This will require a reboot to take effect.

I hope that this is helpful, and if so, has generated some good will. If you
would like to learn more about TScale and how it can help you, please visit

Many of my programs use the Excel COM objects and have been working great
for months if not years.
Recently however all my thin client users on only one of my terminal servers
are experiencing errors like the following:

Unable to start a DCOM Server: {0C0A3666-30C9-11D0-8F20-00805F2CD064} as /.
The error:

"The system cannot find the file specified. "

Happened while starting this command:

C:\WINNT\System32\MDM.EXE -Embedding

I have considered long file names vs.8.3 filenames to no avail. Also made
some attempts at DCOMCNFG with no success.

That leaves me once again to look to you guys for some insight as I have
reached the end of my rope on this one. Any ideas are greatly appreciated.
