The Director software and hardware that IBM uses, in my experience, is
less than optimal (read: blows) compared with Insight Manager, the iLO
boards, and the Rapid Deployment Pack.

The HPaq hardware has, in my experience been more reliable than the
IBM. The last shop I worked at before I took this job had over 300
Intel-based HPaq servers (from 1850R's to BL20pG2's) running Netware and
various versions of Windows, and we had less hardware problems out of
all 300 than we did out of 8 IBM 2U servers (can't remember which model
that was) running Red Hat and SUSE Linux. Now, I don't have to do much
hardware, I'm a MCT and teach, I just use the same hardware over and
over again. :)

But, that's just my personal experience, your experience may vary.
Over the past seven or eight years, I've worked with server hardware
from Dell, IBM, HP (NetServers--Thank goodness they killed that product
line), Compaq Proliants, and the "new" HP (read: Compaq) servers, and
the Compaq/HP Proliants have been far and above the most stable, the
best supported, and the easiest to work on, IMHO.

Just my $0.02, that and $2.00 will buy you an espresso at Starbucks.
:)

James

What's the matter with IBM? Every single server we own is IBM, and
yes, it
was my choice. x330, x335, and x345. Some wicked clustering solutions
with
the EXP400 too...
