[THIN] Re: Citrix Disaster Recovery

I actually worked with a very similar setup a couple of years ago, and it
worked fine.

A couple of things:

Check to ensure that the database when replicated is consistent. Either by
backup and restore or using using SnapManager on Netapp or something like
that.

On the version specific stuff, moving from WI 4.2 to 4.6 I am not 100% sure
on. I am sure that someone here would be able to answer that better than me,
but the DR environment we also used as a production deployment / QA
environment for testing to ensure that everything was correct before we
rolled into prod. This was from a day to day stand point, the best way to
keep the farm up to date with applications (And prevent it from going stale
as I have seen so many do) as well as providing some usage for the DR
environment.

Regarding the DNS, either you have to ensure that you have a low TTL (Like 5
mins), most TTLs on DNS are 24 hours, this means that your IP change may not
be seen by DNS servers that have queried your DNS servers in the past 24
hours. My suggestion on this front would be if you have a url of
https://cstwi.yourdomain.com you could have
https://cstxwi-dr.yourdomain.comalways pointing to your DR site.
Alternatively, without knowing what you are
going to do with email etc, previously I have setup a seperate domain called
yourdomain2.com with all the host records with the same name, but pointing
to the DR site. This means that everyone has username@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx bound
as an email address. This means that when you declare DR, there is less that
you have to do. When the stinky stuff hits the rotating object on the
ceiling, the less you have to worry about the better.
