[THIN] Re: Citrix Disaster Recovery

I'd question why you DR servers are never used; you've a fair bit of tin
there that's going to waste - and perhaps more importantly, the last thing
you need in a disaster is to find out that there is a problem with your DR
site servers: if they're in active use this is less likely to happen.

I'd also say, keep *all* of your configuration settings the same - so don't
have different versions at the two sites; primarily for the 'what could go
wrong will'

Whats happening with your backend services? How are you going to control
which uses are able to connect to the service when you've implemented the dr
policy. Where is your citrix and terminal server license server situated?

Subject: [THIN] Citrix Disaster Recovery

Hi

I am implementing a Citrix DR solution and I wanted to share my design with
the group to see if there are better ways of doing it

2 sites in the same state connected with a 100Mb link

Site 1 (Main Site)

Citrix Zone 1
2 x Citrix Web Interface (Physical Server)
1 x SQL Server (shared) for DataStore
20 x Citrix Presentation Server 4.0 (Physical Server)
1 x Primary Zone Data Collector (Dedicated Physical Server)
1 x backup ZDC (on existing Presentation Server)

Site 2 (DR Site)

Citrix Zone 2
1 x Citrix Web Interface (Virtual Server)
1 x SQL Server (shared) for DataStore
8 x Citrix Presentation Server 4.0 (Physical Server)
1 x Primary Zone Data Collector (on existing Presentation Server)
1 x backup ZDC (on existing Presentation Server)

All servers are in a single Citrix farm but across 2 zones. The Zone Data
collectors do not share information as the servers in Site 2 are not used.
They will only be used in a DR scenario. The SQL database is replicated to
the DR site nightly.

I have a few queries I was hoping the group could help with

1) Site 1 uses Web Interface 4.2. Will there be any issues if I use Web
interface 4.6 at Site 2? Will WI 4.6 change anything on the farm that may
affect WI 4.2?

2) In a DR scenario, I was expecting to simply change the DNS entry which
users use to connect to the Production Web Interface (Site 1) to that of the
DR Web Interface server (Site 2) via a simple IP change. I have duplicated
all Production Published Apps and have associated them to the Citrix Servers
in Site 2.

Would this work? Is there a better way to do this? Any help or links to
best practice guides appreciated

Thanks
Angela
