[THIN] Checking your credentials takes for ever

Not sure how I should try to find out what is causing this?
When users log on it takes 20-40 seconds just for the checking credentials
box to go away.
We are using cmfps v3, PN 8.1
Any suggestions on what could cause this and how to troubleshoot?
