In some aspects Sergei is right (demand is for Windows so people will
gravitate to the virtualization that is built in to Windows). But the thing
HE should be worried about is demand for his product when hardware keeps
getting faster and hardware emulation is now available in Windows. Parallels
Virtuozzo is a fantastic technology but in reality it is probably more at
risk here because end users don't understand it and it doesn't have the
"full isolation" of hardware emulation. It is way more efficient to use, as
is XenApp, but if perception is the concern then he needs to be more
concerned about users ignoring that product than Citrix products!

Bottom line is that XEN is a great hypervisor and now it is clear that now
one will be paying for it. But there is a large world of internal and
commercial hosting on XEN that is only going to grow. Too bad Citrix won't
make money on it, but I think that is okay, it supports and helps sell their
other products..

Interesting read regarding some reaction to the announcement of free
XenServer yesterday.
