Pete,
You've a few 'mis-understandings' about Nfuse.
- Nfuse 1.7 requires Win2k only for the server that is hosting Nfuse
services, and that's for IIS 5.0. You can however with some trickery, run
Nfuse 1.7, on IIS 4.0. You should be able to find info on that process on
thethin.net archives.
- You do not need to install MF on the same server that hosts your
Nfuse services. Although you can install Nfuse on one of your existing NT
4.0 TSE servers, using the trick mentioned above. I would however not
recommend it.
- Nfuse Classic by itself requires no separate licensing. What this
means is:
- If you're using Win NT TSE servers, you should still
legally have enough TS cals available for all your clients. However there
are no connection restrictions tied to the TS licensing as there are with
Win2k servers.
- The citrix licenses used, are your standard connection
licenses. Same as if the user had launched an app from Program Neighborhood.
- Do not add a Win2k Citrix server to your farm just to support Nfuse. It's
not needed.
- The PN agent, is nice, but may not do all that you want it to. Be sure to
test it out on a single client or two before wholesale rolling it out.
Also, you'll note the recent posts from Jim K. SP2 for NT 4.0 TSE servers
with MF XP 1.0 is available now, though I wouldn't rush out and install it
right away. It might be worth a look.
Basically, you just need to think of Nfuse, as a Citrix program neighborhood
for dummies. Once it's setup, a user logs in to the site, and can launch any
application the same as they would from the 'citrix program neighborhood'.

Subject: [THIN] Adding NFuse 1.7 Classic to my toolset
Our current setup consists of 6 Servers in 1 Farm, all Windows NT 4.0 TSE
SP6 with MetaFrame XPa 1.0, SP1/FR1, published apps only, no desktop users.
We are looking to add NFuse to our setup, and as I understand it, Windows
2000 (with MetaFrame XP SP2?) is required for NFuse 1.7. If I add a Windows
2000 Terminal Server into the farm to satisfy the prerequisite for NFuse,
will I instantly need a license server and CAL's for my downlevel clients?
What if I don't publish any applications on it? Will it use TS/Citrix CAL's
if it's just assisting the web server, acting similarly to a dedicated
master browser?
Can a Windows 2000/XPa SP2 machine coexist in a farm with NT4TSE/XPa SP1?
I realize that one of my alternatives would be to go with an older
NFuse/Columbia setup, but I'd like to begin fresh, with the newest that I
can, and be able to use the PNAgent as well.
Please let me know if I am mistaken about anything, and thanks for any
insights you can offer!
