Jeremy, Like I was saying before, don't isolate or redirect AIE to a redirected %APPDATA%. A simple test: Create a new isolation environment and associate it to a test published app. Remove ALL the default AIE crap from this AIE environment. Create the specific isolation/redirection rules (point to %userprofile%\Citrix\AIE\MyApp) -----Original Message----- From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Steve Greenberg Sent: Monday, November 21, 2005 3:29 PM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: AIE under Citrix PS 4.0 As I posted earlier, we saw major performance issues when using a redirect. Is it possible to test it without any redirection or network paths in place, i.e. just have it look at the locally cached profile? I realize that this does not address the search path issue, but we have seen performance issues in a similar scenario. Once we got rid of the redirect everything started working nicely, including issues with finding files that it ought to have seen. Regards, Steve Greenberg Thin Client Computing 34522 N. I've actually changed the User Profile Root from %APPDATA% to %HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%, but that has nothing to do with the problem. The problem is that when I execute the application by aierun, it takes a long time to open. When watching filemon it shows that every file is being referenced from the AIE path first before it them finds it in the %ProgramFiles% folder. Citrix has been unable to explain why this is so, and I was wondering if anyone on this list would know why. i have tried both Isolate and Redirect with the same results. It seems as though most people on this list have not delved into the AIE world yet. Cheers, Jeremy. Files created or saved by the current user are located in the folder called %APPDATA%\Citrix\AIE\AIE_NAME\Device\drive_letter. %APPDATA is a Windows environment variable and is replaced by the application data folder for the current user. Hope that helps, Mike Original Message: ----------------- From: Steve Greenberg steveg@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx Date: Mon, 21 Nov 2005 10:14:34 -0700 To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: AIE under Citrix PS 4.0 Well, I could be off here, but doesn?t redirect do exactly what you want? I thought redirect leaves the local files in place where they reside normally and then re-directs the user specific stuff to the new location. Worth a check, sorry if I am wrong, I find AIE a bit confusing.... Steve Greenberg Thin Client Computing 34522 N. All default settings are correct. Filemon shows that all exe's and dll's are first searched through the AIE path instead of the normal path. This is why it's so slow to execute the application. No one at Citrix thus far has been able to explain why. I should have said CashBook, and not QuickBooks. I have the "QuickBooks" series of apps working, but the "CashBook" series of apps will not work, and are not supported by Quicken mainly due to sharing violations in the %ProgramFiles% folder. I've done approximately 40 different accountancy applicatsions for one of Australias largest Accountancy firms. This is really the last on to get working, and the only one that has required the use of an AIE. Isolating it in that manner should be supported, as it's documented as a function of AIE. Cheers. I did get a weird "files not found, click to download again" the first time each user logged in. I redirect the home folder, but QuickBooks is just installed to program files and not running in an AIE. I have not heard any complaints yet. -----Original Message----- From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Jeremy Saunders Sent: Friday, November 18, 2005 7:39 AM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] AIE under Citrix PS 4.0 Hi All, I'm having a bit or trouble trying to isolate an application using an AIE and am looking for an "expert" that has a real good understanding of how it should work. Don't get me wrong, it isolates and lauches the application, but it takes so long to launch the app and close it that it is not acceptable for the production environment. The applications I am working with is Quicken 2003 QuickBooks and Quicken 2004 QuickBooks (for an accountancy firm). These programs are not multiuser and Terminal Server aware, so there are a couple of files in the %ProgramFiles% folder that generate a sharing violation, therefore I am using an AIE to Isolate ONLY these files. When lanuching the program normally outside the AIE, it opens and closes really quickly. But when lanching it via AIERUN, it's terribly slow. If you trace them with filemon you can see that it's searching the AIE User Profile Root for ALL files (exe's, dll's, etc) first, instead of from the %ProgramFiles% folder. It is my understanding that it should only refer to the AIE User Profile Root for the isolated files. I have a call logged with Citrix. So far level 1 support has not been that helpful to a point where they are blaming the Quicken application. I find this hard to believe and have asked for it to be escalated. In fact, I have asked to speak to an AIE expert who can explain why this is happening, and hopefully provide me with a solution, or tell me if I have correctly configured it. But I'm not confident that they will find me one for Monday, so thought I'd put this to the forum. The server OS is Windows 2003 (not SP1). Any help and advice would be appreciated. Cheers.
