In this case, the vendor is Microsoft. The product is a report writer called FRx that's bundled with their Dynamics products. We've not been successful in influencing their product directions in the past. ________________________________ From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Jeremy Saunders Sent: Tuesday, June 07, 2011 8:30 PM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: 32-bit apps No, respectfully that's silly. You must progress your IT environment to the newer OS's. 99% of 32-bit apps will work 100% under Windows 2008 R2 (64-bit). UAT and system testing will pick up any anomalies, which can mostly be addressed by changing permissions, registry values, shortcuts, etc. You can deploy those fixes by GPO's, scripts, etc. As for the app vendors that won't support you, when push comes to shove I doubt it will be an issue as they can also learn from your deployment. However, in this modern era of virtualisation, have a small XenApp 5 farm running on Windows 2003 32-bit that you can test the "issues" on. If you want to get a good analysis of your application on its 64-bit compatibility, have a look at Apptitute from App-DNA. A brilliant product for application analysis that can provide excellent reports that executives can also understand. This is also a report you could supply to the application vendor. The latest version of App-DNA can also help you fix any known issues. Don't allow some silly application vendors hold you back from modernising and enhancing your environment. Cheers, Jeremy. However, we have some applications we still use that are not supported on 64-bit platforms. Is there currently, or will there be, a 64-bit-only limitation for XenApp, and if so, how would you recommend we continue to deploy our 32-bit apps? ________________________________ This message and any attachments may be a confidential attorney-client communication or otherwise be privileged and confidential.
