[THIN] Re: 1.8 to XP - browsing fails

It's too late now but I would have been interested to see what the
following setting was post-upgrade...

CMC|Farm Properties|Metaframe Settings Tab|Broadcast Response

If I remember correctly you would need to adjust this after your
upgrade. If you installed clean then it's not an issue.

Strange, but since I had some spare time, I just rebuilt the citrix =
server from scratch. Formatted the drive and reinstalled Win 2000 with
=
SP3 and installed Citrix XPa. After creating my published desktop I =
went to see if I could access it from my terminals. I CAN. Even =
without specifying the server name or ip address on the terminal, I just
=
used auto-locate and it popped up. Not sure I understand why this is =
working but why it wasn't working after an upgrade. Must have something
= to do with mixed/native mode?

Some clarifications. I only have 1 citrix server, this was the one =3D
running 1.8 that I upgraded to XP.

After upgrading to XP, my terminals still had access to the published =
=3D apps previously made. However, when trying to get my terminals to
see = =3D new apps they were unable to find any citrix server. If I
hardcoded the = =3D computer name or IP address on the terminal itself
instead of using TCP = =3D broadcasts, the terminal would find the new
publishes apps. Problem is, = =3D my mindset is still 1.8, and I know
that if you hardcoded that, you will = =3D not be able to use load
balancing because they clients would =3D
automatically go right to the server that was hardcoded. Has this =3D
changed in XP?

Importance: Low

Is the "test box" a member of an existing "Farm". When you upgrade to
XP the published applications on that system are automatically upgraded
and should be accessible immediately.

However, if this system is not the only system within the farm then you
will run into several documented issues. Most of these pertain to
"load-balanced" apps across a mixed farm. By default your XP
installation would be in "native mode".

The other problem you could encounter is bringing an XP Farm "online"
when you have other 1.8 servers on the same SUBNET.

This causes the native mode farm to NOT respond to client broadcasts.
In this case you would need to HARD CODE the client.

Ok... I'm sure it has to do with my ignorance of XP, but I upgraded my =
=3D =3D3D test box which was running Metaframe 1.8 on 2000 to XPa.
After doing = =3D =3D3D so, my terminals can no longer browse to find
the published applications =3D3D or the server by what used to be ica
browsing. When searching, = they now =3D3D report that no Citrix
servers are found on the network.

I'm assuming XP operates differently for this. Is there no more ICA =
=3D3D browsing under XP, if so, do I need to specify on each client the
citrix =3D3D
server name or ip address? By doing this, will it still load balance =
=3D
=3D3D
somehow? Thanks.

Derek, I wouldn't mind a copy of the template myself.

Thanks,
