I will be leading the Yellow Rail walks again this weekend at Anahuac
NWR. The walks are at 7 am and 4 pm both Saturday and Sunday. These
are the only walks remaining this season.
We've had good luck in getting people watching from the road looks at
the rails. Of course, the more feet in the prairie the better the odds
of seeing one.
We are not doing the walks on the Yellow Rail Prairie this year, the
grass is too dense to walk in. We are in the Gator Marsh unit
(mentioned in the book the Big Year) this year.
No reservations are needed and we do have some loaner boots. Meet at
the visitor contact station by the restrooms as you enter the refuge.
Mosquitoes have been all over the place, from plague like to non
existent, so bring your insect spray. Water proof shoes are
recommended.
