[texbirds] Re: Texas Big Year 435.

Congratulations Dennis. Lord only knows how many miles you have traveled. We
took four significant trips together this year. The Panhandle in January was
2000 plus miles, the Feb Valley trip with Victor Emanuel was 2015.3 miles, The
Big bend trip in May was well over 2000 and the valley trip last month to go on
the pelagic was 1540. That's at least 7500 in just those 4 weekend trips! It's
close to 200 miles with each coastal run for you. You made another trip to
Chalk Bluff and then made a swing through all of west Texas again. I suspect
you may have gone closer to 20,000 miles in 7 months! Your little truck is
probably so happy to see you headed to Costa Rica it could honk the Aggie war
hymn!

Howdy Texbirders!
Thanks to everyone (especially Fred Collins, John Tharp, Randy Pinkston, and
Jenni Gillespie) for a great "year" ending with 435 species in Texas (eBird).
I'm gone to the east coast and Canada for August and then the rest of the year
in Costa Rica, so my "Texas Big Year" ended July 30th. Way over 3000 miles
traveled. A wonderful chance to really study and enjoy some great birds, visit
places in Texas I had never birded, in my 40+ years of birding Texas, and meet
some really great Texas birders and non-birders. Good luck to all the birders
who will continue their quest.
