Howdy!
I have been having a great time birding back home in Kinney County (between
Uvalde and Val Verde) this weekend with long-time birding friends and
mentors Kathy Bader and Louisa Stone. Highlights of the past two days
include:
Flock of 6 Rusty Blackbirds (new county record?)
2 White-collared Seedeaters
3 Least Grebes (including one juvenile - proof of successful breeding this
year)
Hutton's Vireo (common in northern part of county, but this one was off the
escarpment, in an oak motte in the brush country)
White-tailed Kite
Prairie Merlin
Common Gallinules (can be difficult in this county)
Wilson's Snipe in about every patch of mud
Sprague's Pipit
Black-tailed Gnatcatcher
16 species of sparrow (whiffed on a couple regulars)
