I have not been there in a long time though it has always been a place
for sloutches, I recall it as where I saw my first White-winged Scoter so
there you go...But seriously, the place used to blanketed with empty shot
gun shell...Ro Wauer, myself and a couple of others I don't remember once
saw a guy shooting at anything that flew over, he finally took down a
Common Loon. Ro was once a ranger at Big Bend of course and he calmly but
firmly, let the guy know we had just seen and of his background. The
fellow's shorts grew very heavy, and he was literally begging Ro and us not
to turn him....We were probably fools for letting him slide , but we knew
he had to get back to his truck a good distance away for a roll of toilet
paper. Lied to him and said we patrolled the area regularly...And for him
not to let us find him there again with a gun. I guess it just
worse.....Matagorda Is. gulf shore was/is a disaster as well after the spat
of hurricanes a few years back. It was a real train wreak but maybe it has
been cleaned up since (?)
