And is introduced into hawaii too.

When I saw it, it was a melodious laughing thrush which sounded cooler. It
can be common outside Oahu and has been there a long time. Very good
singer. The Taiwan bird was formerly a subspecies but dna'd into a full
species. Apparently brought in by chinese immigrants for its singing
ability.

There used to be records in this country, especially California, but I have
seen none for a long time. Most were from Los angeles. They import very
large numbers into the US each year. The trade puts heavy strain on the
birds in the wild because all females are killed and tossed into a stew pot
when birds are trapped at the nest. China has concerns about possible
declines and asked for them to be listed in CITES as a species of concern.
Not sure as to current status or if it was listed.

Note that most birds of this sort are trapped by the nest where they are
easy to net. If they are singing birds females are not released but eaten.
