TexBirders,
This past week myself & two colleagues (Jim Sinclair & Barbara Rapstein) have
visited the Norias division of King Ranch four different days. Ferruginous
pygmy-owls were found on all four days with two or more birds seen and/or heard
on 3 of the 4 days. Remarkably, early this morning 3 different pygmy-owls were
heard calling while standing in one location.
Multiple tropical parula's were seen and/or heard on 2 out of 4 visits. Other
birds of interest found on one or more of those outings include merlin,
northern beardless-tyrannulet, Sprague's pipit, and Audubon's oriole.
Wild turkey gobblers have been busy displaying as well which is always amusing.
Spring is definitely progressing at the Norias division of King Ranch.
Good birding,
Tom Langschied
