Send interesting sightings- complete with species name, LOCATION, and contact information- to Kenny Anderson at kennya290@xxxxxxxxx (don't forget the location- useless without it!) -Rarities Found This Week- A Red-throated Loon was a highlight during the Texas Ornithological Society' Round Rock convention. The bird was found at Stillhouse Hollow Lake- Union Grove WMA on 1/18. The Bell County bird has been photographed and seen as recently as 1/21. A Common Merganser was seen from Llano County Park on Lake Buchanan on 1/19. A Long-tailed Duck has quite a following, with many reports and photographs from the Inks Lake National Fish Hatchery in Burnet County. Reports 1/7-22. An immature White-tailed Hawk was seen at the TX95 and CR347 intersection in Williamson County on 1/19. White-tailed Hawk seen in Jarrel on 1/18 near Avenue K and South 5th Street in Williamson County. POSSIBLE report of 3 Whooping Cranes at Granger Lake 1/23 in Williamson County. This is included to inspire verification. There is a nicely photo-documented Harris's Hawk on I-35 north of 130 in Williamson County. 2 Calliope Hummingbirds have been photographed visiting an Austin home's feeder. 1/23 latest update. Broad-tailed Hummingbird is at a private residense in Guadalupe County 1/15. Ferruginous Hawk continued in the Granger Lake area with another report on 1/18 in Williamson County. Zone-tailed Hawk reports: 1/19 in Comal County on TX46 near New Braunfels, 1/20 from Guadalupe River State Park in Comal County. American Bittern continues to be fairly reliable at Mueller Austin pond near Brauning Hanger at Aldrich and Simond Streets. 1/17-20. A Great Kiskadee continues to be reported from a Caldwell County private property 1/20. Rusty Blackbirds, up to 24, have been reprted this week from Hornsby Bend. Birds are being seen near the CER Building, Pond 1 West and Pond 3. Rusty Blackbirds are being seen at Aquarena Springs in Hays County- with 6 reported 1/22. Reports for the Austin area RBA cover a 60 mile radius, centered from the Capitol in downtown Austin. Bird sightings mentioned here have been filtered and scrutinized by the compiler and are believed to be genuine.
