See if you don't think this is better late than never. -Rarities Found This Week- Details of a Vaux's Swift over Cook Elementary School in Travis County on 10/15 were written up. voice was used to separate Chimney and White-throated Swifts from Vaux's. An amazing find of Nelson's Sparrow at Bob Wentz/ Windy Point Travis County Park on 10/19,20. Bird was photographed both days, and seen by numerous folks on Sunday. bird is along water's edge west and south of Boat Launch (what was once when the lake was full). Tremendous find- only the third area record. A flyover Whooping Crane was reported on Texbirds from a Bastrop County home on 10/17. 10/15 and 16 were days to be out watching the skies as thousands of raptors streamed over the Austin area. Swainson's and Turkey Vultures constituted the vast majority of the movement, but nuggets could be teased. A White-tailed Kite was picke out from a Bastrop County residence on 10/17. A Sanderling at Hornsby Bend along with four Black-bellied Plovers were nice deposits from a big rain Austin had on 10/13. Bob Wentz/Windy Point also had a Black-bellied Plover. Broad-tailed Hummingbirds are at a Blanco County home (male on 10/19) and a Bastrop County home on 10/20. A Virginia Rail was at a Mueller Austin pond near the Browning Hanger on 10/20 (Travis). A male Vermilion Flycatcher is being seen on the west side of Pond 2 at Hornsby Bend. Last report 10/14-20 Reports for the Austin area RBA cover a 60 mile radius, centered from the Capitol in downtown Austin. Bird sightings mentioned here have been filtered and scrutinized by the compiler and are believed to be genuine.
