Send interesting sightings- complete with species name, LOCATION, and contact information- to Kenny Anderson at kennya290@xxxxxxxxx -Rarities Found This Week- An enticing report of a Fork-tailed Flycatcher came from Bexar County on 6/30. The bird was said to be at a field on the south corner of Judson Road and Mountain Vista Drive. A subsequent report of Fork-tailed Flycatcher at the nearby intersection of Judson Road and Charles W. Anderson had no details. Hopefully a continued search is made to further garner evidence to support the sighting. A trip to Stillhouse Hollow Lake's union Grove WMA on July 2 yielded a White-rumped Sandpiper, a Least Tern, and an Osprey. (Bell County) Friendship Park on Granger Lake in Williamson County had a few highlight birds including: Least Tern, Black Tern, Osprey. Tree Swallows were observed at Sore Finger on the same trip on 7/2. 7 Franklin's Gulls were photographed at Bob Wentz/Windy Point in Travis County on 7/1. An Osprey continued to be seen at the location. A Snowy Plover and 4 Willets at Stillhouse Hollow were nice finds on 6/29. A Zone-tailed Hawk was described at a Hays County home three miles from Whimberly on 7/3. Two Bushtits were entered into Ebird from St. Edward's Park in NW Austin. This species has been difficult to see in the area, further reports encouraged from the circle. 6/24 American Kestrels are regularly being seen on top of the UT Royal Memorial Stadium's Jumbotron in Travis County. An Anhinga was photographed at Heep Lake, a pond on the SE corner of 45 and I-35 in Travis County. -Continuing From Previous Week- The Purple Martin roost on the north side of Highland Mall in Austin is again a spectacular sight not to be missed. I welcome all estimates of numbers. A Herring Gull continues to be seen at Decker Lake in Austin. Last report 7/3 had the bird on the dam, previously seen at the boat launch. Two Brown-crested Flycatchers are on Kellam Lane in the Elroy area of Travis County 7/4. Couch's Kingbirds can be best monitored for locations on Ebird, but a report from Auditorium Shores on Lady Bird demonstrates a push further west along the Colorado River. Reports for the Austin area RBA cover a 60 mile radius, centered from the Capitol in downtown Austin. Bird sightings mentioned here have been filtered and scrutinized by the compiler and are believed to be genuine.
