This is the Austin Area Rare Bird Alert. This update is as of 2/4/2015.
Send interesting sightings, complete with species name, location, and

-Exceptional birds in the circle-

A STRIPED SPARROW was photographed and audio recorded at CR 428 east of CR
361, *Williamson*, 1/11. The most recent positive report is from 2/4. This
is a potential first ABA record, although provenance has been questioned.

-Rarities found this week-

A FERRUGINOUS HAWK was well described from the CR 428 and CR 361 area
in *Williamson
County*, 2/1.

A PURPLE FINCH was described from a private residence in Cedar Park, TX,
*Williamson*, 1/30.

A ZONE-TAILED HAWK was photographed flying over the UT tower, *Travis*,
1/30.

A WHITE-BREASTED NUTHATCH was described from the Brentwood area in Austin,
*Travis*, 2/5.

A COMMON PAURAQUE was photographed on private property in *Guadalupe County*,
2/1.

Four GREATER SCAUP were reported from the Granger Lake area, *Williamson*,
2/2.

A SOLITARY SANDPIPER was seen near FM 969 in *Bastrop County*, 2/2.

-Continuing birds from previous weeks-

A CURVE-BILLED THRASHER continued at Reimer's Ranch, *Travis,* 1/31.

A BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER continued at John Stokes San Marcos River
Park, *Hays*, most recently 2/4.

A well photographed ALLEN'S HUMMINGBIRD continues at a private residence in
west Austin, *Travis*, 2/1. The bird has been present since at least
December.

A WHITE-BREASTED NUTHATCH continued at Max Starke Park in Seguin,
*Guadalupe* 1/30.

Individual CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRDS continued on private property in New
Braunfels*, Comal*, 2/1 and a private residence in central Austin, *Travis*,
2/5.

RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS continued near CR 428 at Granger Lake, *Williamson*,
2/2 and Bastrop State Park, *Bastrop*, 2/1.

A SAY'S PHOEBE continued near Manor, *Travis*, 1/31.

PYRRHULOXIAS continued at McNeil and Merrytown Rds., *Travis*, 2/1 and Pace
Bend Park, *Travis*, 1/30.

A GREAT KISKADEE continued at Berry Springs Park in Georgetown, *Williamson*,
2/2.

RUSTY BLACKBIRDS continued at Hornsby Bend, *Travis*, most recently 2/5.

Reports for the Austin area RBA cover a 60 mile radius, centered on the
Capitol in downtown Austin. Bird sightings mentioned here have been
filtered and scrutinized by the compiler and are believed to be genuine.
