[TechAssist] Re: toshiba cf27h50 shadow mask

Jerry,
sounds like shadow mask but I have to throw this in since all else
seemed to have failed, ever try placing small magnets on implosion
shield finding right combination then taping in place, you can
experiment with everyday fridge magnets or any misc magnets, i've had 5
successes in past 30 yrs and thats also all the times I ever needed to.

Jeff,
I'm Jerry, nice to meet everybody. I've had other units with the same
kind of problem. Never could be quite sure it was the shadow mask, and
it always bothered me. I thought I would get some other opinions. Thanks
for the advice. I've tried each one of your techniques, and I can't
remove the distorted colors. I'm going to write this one off. Thanks
again for everyone's help.....Jerry

You didn't forget to gradually move the coil away from the set, did you?
Start at a distance of 6 ft, or so, move close, then move about 6ft from
the
set, unplug the coil.

Bill,
I like your experiment, but it didn't work. When I degauss the unit with
the handheld degaussing ring, the screwed up colors never dissappear. Do
you have any other ideas, I sure would appreciare your input.....

OK, This is what I do. It may be wrong...But it was how I was taught.
Start with unit in a Cold Start State.
Step 1 With Unit off--Disconnect the internal Degauss coil. Turn unit
on. Step 2 Degauss using your handheld coil.
Step 3 Let the unit warm up 15 or 20 min. Step 4 Turn off unit and let
sit off for about 10 min. DO NOT MOVE THE UNIT.
Step 5 Turn unit back on.
If the Purity problem comes back during the warm up or when you turn it
on the second time. The Shadow Mask is loose.
Its also important not to move the unit after you degauss with the
handheld coil. The earths magnetic field can mess with the experiment.
Like I said. This could be completely off base. But It works for me.
(Has far as I know anyway!)
I am sure there are people on this list who have a better way or know
more about it then I.
Just thought I would Run this up the flag pole and see anyone salutes!
Good luck, God Bless, Happy Holidays

Maybe someone can tell me, how to determine if the shadow mask has
broken loose. I tried the only way I know, and that is if you have a
discolored screen ( blue, purple weird colors), and the colors don't go
away after degaussing. Also I tried tapping on the front of the screen
to see some
kind
of movement in the shadow mask, didn't help. Can someone give me some
advice, sure would appreciate it....
