Hi Ron,
Usually on the Sears units like that it's the cassette carriage giving you
the problem if it's not loading.  It's the most common thing anyway.  More
specifically the loading rod and gears on the underside of the cassette
carriage.  That's my guess from what you've described.  On the right end
where a spring hooks on is usually where it breaks, or fractures the gear.
I don't have a print for that particular model, but you'll find it pretty
easy to re-time if that's the problem.
Also, if it looks pretty worn since the last service, I would strongly
recommend putting a tune-up kit in it.  They're not that expensive.  Try
Frank Fendley over at Studio Sound for the parts.
