FIXED: Toshiba Md# CE27C15 Chassis: TAC-9345 Symptom: Dead, will not power at switch or by remote. Customer also complained of intermittent ON, before complete failure. Initially when power is applied, through plugging it in, an audible relay click was heard and light crackling as if voltage was present on board but power button would not turn on the set. Upon initial inspection both glass fuses, F801 and F802 okay, also 5A, F803 metered okay. Traced forward from relay and found cap C863, 50v-4.7uf open. Checked ESR on this cap, using a Cap analyzer 88 and got a reading only if external heat was applied. Because of its physical location to R863, a 20ohm high heat producing resistor and Q801 (STR-S5241), I suspect this cap may be getting exposed to external heat temperatures at or near its tolerance which caused its failure. Replaced R863 and checked ESR on remaining caps in the area. No other problems found, set ON functions restored.
