The format of data added by cable companies was standardized so that all set
designers knew what they had to accommodate in order to use the data. The
logic of the RCA sets was designed to utilize this data. RCA claims that
some cable companies added additional data for their own purposes. The logic
does not expect this additional data and it screws things up when received.
This is not the only thing that cable companies do that deviates from the
standards. Have you not noticed that the brightness and audio levels vary
from channel to channel?
