Finally got this dog fixed. Originally, I had changed the tuner because of a herringbone problem. No change. Went through the AGC circuit checking every part. Nothing bad. Finally tried another tuner and the set works great. The original replacement tuner was a new one, not a rebuilt and had exactly the same problem as the original tuner the set came in with. What's the chances of that happening? Thank you Bob and Peter for you help. I have concluded that even though the AGC circuit seems to be working, it may not be working correctly. I need a schematic of the circuit to go further. Does someone have a schematic they can email me directly, upload to the members area, or fax me? I mainly need the AGC circuit. Make: Zenith Model: SMS-2053S Module: 9-1457-1 Thank you for your help. There does not appear to be a capacitor just to the left of the regulator heat sink hooked between two jumpers. The only capacitors in that area are mounted through holes on the PCB and are: C3417, 222K, Ceramic C3419, 182K, Ceramic C3482, .001, Mylar No electrolytics in that area. Any other thoughts? Thanks for you assistance.
