Ed, it sounds screwy to me. The MS activation is only for hardware 
changes as far as I know.

The only thing I can think of, is that Windows might not see your DVD 
burner as a burner, just a reader. Then when Nero is installed, Windows 
then sees the drive as a burner and thus the so called hardware change. 
One change though is not usually enough to call up the activation, 
unless you have been making numerous other changes too. This is far 
fetched but thats all I can think of.
